About us
On the following pages we would like to give you information about our association, our national member associations, the further qualification as a Lactation Consultant IBCLC and the international projects and initiatives that support breastfeeding.
IBCLC lactation consultants are subject to a strict code of ethics. This includes both the “Code of Ethics for the IBCLC” (see www.iblce-europe.org) and the so-called “WHO Code”: The International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and the subsequent WHA Resolutions.
The European Association VELB
VELB was founded in 1991 by the first lactation consultants in Europe to promote breastfeeding through a federation of European Lactation Consultants IBCLC.
This goal will be achieved
- By the promotion of the profession of Lactation Consultant IBCLC in collaboration with professional associations and health care institutions.
- By cooperation in the planning and implementation of training and continuing education for Lactation Consultants IBCLC.
- By cultivating and strengthening relationships at international level as well as by representing the interests of the members and national member associations in national and international breastfeeding and health organizations.
- And by maintaining and promoting scientific and practical work in the area of breastfeeding.
